How to Join:

The IWF actively seeks new member organisations from wargaming groups world-wide. In order to take into account the wide and varied nature of national and regional bodies, as well of clubs and societies, we have created a fairly flexible constitution. In essence, all members participate in the policy making decisions of the Federation.

Details re the Council Meetings are in Clause 12, while details re the Executive Committee are stipulated in Clause 13 of the Constitution.

As you will no doubt notice, there are different categories of membership.

  • Category A membership for National bodies
  • Category B membership for Regional bodies, and
  • Category C membership for Clubs and/or Societies.

Each category comes with its own rights and privledges. Obviously there is a slight 'weighting' to National bodies in an attempt to encourage the development of such bodies.

Each country is normally only entitled to one member organisation, a National body. Regional bodies may only apply if there is no National body affiliated. Clubs and Societies may only apply if there is no National or Regional body affiliated. If a higher level of organisation for a county is affiliated all lower level members will have their membership terminated. Clause 10 of the Constitution and Schedule 6 of the Regulations specify the details of membership.

Requirements for Potential Applicants:

Any applicant organisation must fulfil a number of basic requirements in order to be considered for affiliation to the IWF. These are as follows:

  • It must be a properly constituted body.
  • It must support the aims of the IWF.
  • Its constitution and objectives must not be in conflict with those of the IWF.
  • They must comply with the requirements of the applicable membership category (A,B or C) definition as set out in the Regulations of the IWF.
  • It must undertake to respect the Constitution and the Regulations of the IWF
  • It must make a written application to the Executive Director of the IWF using the approved form accompanied by all documentation stipulated in the application form.
  • They must commit to paying an annual membership fee as decided by the IWF Council. At the current time this fee is £1 per registered player.

Steps for Potential Applicants:

If at any stage there is confusion about any feature of the affiliation process or the IWF itself it is recommended that the applicants contact the Executive Director of the IWF. Normally the following steps will have to be completed to process an application:

  1. Check that they can fulfil all of the requirements for potential applicants above.
  2. Complete the official Application Form for Affiliation.
  3. Complete the official Player Registration Form for all players the organisation wished to register.
  4. Submit a physical copy of the official Application Form for Affiliation, official Player Registration Form and a copy of the applicant organisation's constitution to the Executive Director of the IWF
  5. The Executive Director will then check that the application is complete and correct and submit it to the IWF where the membership must be approved. This normally takes place at the annual general meeting which is held in conjunction with the Individual World Championships.
